In addition to the photographer, your crew will also include a dress assistant. She will not only help you into the gown, which can be a little tricky, but your assistance will also help you carry the gown around, and most importantly, she will make it fly.

The dress assistant will stand behind you and flick the dress up when the right time comes, so in the photo, the dress will look like it’s moving. This is why this shoot is so unique, and doing your own flying dress shoot is hard because you need not only a professional photographer but also another person to make your dress fly.

In practice, the photographer waits for the right wind and communicates with the dress person to throw the dress up. It sounds super complicated, but luckily during the shoot, it goes really smoothly because these people really know what they’re doing.

Imerovigli – The town of Imerovigli is a great alternative to Oia. It also has epic caldera views and quaint churches with blue domes, but the town is way less crowded and can be reached within a 20-minute drive from Oia. Imerovigli is where all our photos were taken.

Other locations – There are also other great locations worthy of Santorini flying dress photos, including the village of Megalochori, Columbus Beach or the village of Finikia.

We did our Santorini dress shoot in April, and the photographer was fully booked most days, so if you’re not flexible on travel dates, book your photoshoot as early in advance as possible. Plus, if you’re booking through Viator, you can cancel up to 24 hours before the appointment, which is so good.

I personally preferred to spend a little more and have a guarantee of quality. And since I’m a photographer myself, I could easily see from the sample photos if they were taken by an experienced photographer or an amateur.

This is the most important advice we can give you! I was so nervous before my appointment because I wanted it to be perfect, and I wanted my photos to be perfect too. Luckily, when we met up with our photographer, I instantly calmed down and decided just to have fun.

Santorini Flying Dress Shoot: My Experience

I am normally very careful about how I spend my hard-earned money, so I was a little unsure at first. But I’m so glad I did the shoot, and I’m even more happy my partner pose with me!

Our photographer – Vasilis, was kind and professional, and he made me feel comfortable and gave me a lot of useful directions on how to pose. We shot at 4 or 5 different spots in Imerovigli, and the frames were well-thought and nicely composed.

Before the shoot, I thought it will be hard work, but a few minutes into posing, I really really enjoy myself shamelessly! It almost felt like I’m the bride, and this was my big day. ❤️ Even my partner Robin enjoyed the shoot and did a really good job at posing for the photos.
