Kanto Lampo Waterfall Bali – Complete Guide

AFFILIATE DISCLOSURE

Kanto Lampo Waterfall tacked away in the lush Bali jungle is one of the most stunning waterfalls to explore on the island. It is still a hidden gem because it’s not a part of most popular organised tours so harry before that changes.

This post will provide you with all the information for visiting Kampo Lampo or Air Terjun Kanto Lampo called by locals and all you need to have a fantastic day trip.

Where is Kanto Lampo Waterfall?

Kanto Lampo Waterfall Bali

Kanto Lampo is situated 14 km east from Ubud in a village called Gianyar. It takes around 30 minutes to get to the town from Ubud, and once you’re there, signs will point you in the right direction. It takes approximately 1.5 hours to get here from the Denpasar area.

Kanto Lampo was only recently formed by an avalanche to the river Kanto Lampo. At first local people were concerned that the newly formed waterfall may disrupt the irrigation system to the local rice paddies but luckily it turned out there is enough water for both. Kanto Lampo has quickly become a place to visit for the locals and Bali expats too. The admission charged at the waterfall supports the local community.

How to get there?

Kanto Lampo Waterfall Bali

By motorbike

Riding a scooter is my preferred way of getting around Bali. It gives you maximum flexibility and is the cheapest mode of transport, besides nothing beats riding a scooter through the beautiful Balinese countryside. Expect to pay between 50k-80k IDR for scooter rental a day.

Petrol is widely available in Bali. Vendors sell it in glass bottles by the side of the road. If you ever wondered why they sell vodka on the side of the road everywhere, that’s petrol. Petrol currently costs 10k IDR per bottle, and a scooter holds about three bottles.

You can simply type the name of the place in Google Maps, and it will show you the way. Put away your phone and use earphone for navigation prompts. Don’t hold your phone and ride, that’s the most common way tourists crash on motorbikes in Bali.

By hired car

Hiring a driver is also a very convenient way to travel around Bali and definitely the most comfortable with the car aircon. If you’re travelling in a bigger group or with children, it makes sense to hire a car. You can hire a car that comes with a driver that will take you around to places. The going rate starts at 500k IDR per 8 hour day.

By Gojek

Gojek is equivalent to UBER in Indonesia. It is super easy to use and very reliable. Download the app and see your location then just say where you want to go, and the app will send your driver. You can either get a car or a motorbike lift. The payment is typically taken by cash unless you top up the app and it’s very affordable. You can even get a Gojek to pick up your groceries. How convenient! I use Gojek for shorter distances, and I have never had any complaints.

With a tour

If you’re on a tight schedule but want to make the most of your time in Bali, I recommend exploring with a tour. The itinerary is usually fixed, and all the logistics arranged for you with a pick up and drop off to your accommodation.

Check out this awesome tour that includes a visit to Kanto Lampo Waterfall, Tegalalang Rice fields and swinging on the famous, giant Bali swing!

Kanto Lampo Waterfall Entrance Fee

Kanto Lampo Ticket

Ticket to Kanto Lampo is 20k IDR which includes the parking fee.

When you arrive, you will notice a price list for photos and videos.

At first, we thought that it costs money to take photos at the waterfall, but actually, it doesn’t if you’re taking the pictures by yourself.

If you want someone to take them for you, for example, if you’re on your own, then there are some men at the waterfall that will assists you with that. I saw them in action, they are really good and will advise you how to pose and take many photos of you from different angles. I personally didn’t use their services, but my advice to you is to agree on the price in advance.

What to expect?

Arriving

When you arrive at the place, there will be a large area surrounded by shacks with local vendors selling drinks and snacks. If you need a drink, then buy it from here as there won’t be any when you descend to the waterfall.

Go through the gate shown on the photo below and as you go passed there will be toilets and changing rooms on you right. They are free to use, but you can leave a donation in the box provided.

Hike down

The hike down is short and sweet. It will take no more than 10 minutes. There will be a ticket office further down where you pay admission (foreigners’ price is displayed while Indonesian people pay a little less).

After purchasing your ticket, go down the steep staircase, I promise it’s not too long.

The waterfall

Kanto Lampo Waterfall Bali

Once you descend to the waterfall, you can leave your bags by the wall. Trees and greenery completely cover the waterfall pool so you can properly cool down here and don’t need to worry about sun burn. The pool is not deep enough to swim, and the bottom of the pool is mostly even so you can leave your shoes on the side.

Go under the waterfall and let the crystal clear, freshwater wash your body. It’s a truly exhilarating experience. Watch your steps while climbing the rocks, which are luckily not very slippery. If you struggle with the balance, which may be the case because the water stream is quite strong, just sit down for a minute.

Don’t forget to take a few fantastic, sexy shots. 😉

It only works when one person at a time poses for the photo at the bottom of the waterfall. When I visited, people were respectful and just waited their turn for the picture, so everyone had the opportunity for a shot without unwanted background crowd.

Best time to visit?

Kanto Lampo Waterfall Bali

Any time to is good to visit Kanto Lampo Waterfall if you don’t mind other people around you. The best time to visit if you prefer fewer people will always be early in the morning or later in the afternoon.

Things to bring with you to Kanto Lampo Waterfall

Day Backpack – for this adventure and many other ones, you’ll need a day pack. My favourite one is the stylish and minimalistic Kanken. It is made of durable materials and it’s super simple and super comfortable.

Mirrorless camera – I love Sony cameras! If you’re looking for an entry-level, compact camera that takes awesome photos, go for Sony Alpha 6400, I’ve used it for years and took some excellent pictures with it. For a more advanced selection, I recommend Sony A7iii, I can’t be more happy with it, and I know lots of professional photographers and creators who use it too.

Power bank – power bank to charge my mobile phone saved my life a few times, no kidding. It is handy if you’re using Google maps which is a drain on the phone’s battery. I recommend choosing a lightweight one

Raincoat – I know you’re probably thinking I’m crazy, but trust me, the raincoat is essential, especially if you’re scootering your way through the island. When it’s rainy, it actually gets cold on the scooter, and during the rainy season, which is between November and April, it rains buckets!

Reusable water bottle – water flask, especially thermal ones, is so practical here in Bali. Many hotels and restaurants let their guests refill the bottles for free in an effort to reduce plastic use on the island.

Sun cream – this is another essential to carry with you and frequently reapply. Choose an eco-friendly and vegan one to do your part for the environment.

Adventure sandals – sports sandals with straps are the best type of footwear for any Bali adventure. They dry quickly and are sturdy enough to keep you safe on your hikes. I use North Face sandals, I’ve had them for years and they never let me down.
